I have been quite amazed over the years, just at the various levels of understanding of these two marketing platforms. I am here to explain them both to you in basic terms, not only because I’m a caring person but because I heard clients complaining that other marketing people don’t speak “plain English”.

So I am going to break down the difference of each one and then give you a bit more information as well as statistics regarding them. Firstly, AdWords is created and only operational by/on Google. This is when keywords, phrases or sentences are registered and linked to your website. They will appear on the top, bottom or right hand side of a search with an AD block next to the website.

The moment that a potential customer types any one of those specific keywords, phrases or sentences into Google then your website will appear. Now please don’t get excited that your website will appear first on the search list because that depends on your budget as well as how accurately your account is set up.

Now let’s talk about SEO, this stands for Search Engine Optimisation and it quite simply explains what it is. This is when a search engine ranks your website and then lists it accordingly. There are a few search engines out there but the most popular are Google, Bing and Yahoo. So if you have a PC or mobile near you, search for something on Google. You will see the few websites with the AD block next to them so everything else will fall under SEO. This is when each of the search engines have a long list of criteria and the website that meets that criteria the best, goes to the top.

The biggest mistake that I have seen clients make is that they assume that the rest of the online customers are the same as them. It has been proven that everyone is different, some people may click on Adwords because they feel that it is better quality. Then others will never click on Adwords because they think it’s more expensive or they rather click on the 3rd page because they think that it is cheaper.

Ultimately, it is important to do a variety of online marketing so that you can reach all of your potential customers. Feel free to book a consultation regarding your business on join us at the next workshop.
